Glitter was the result of a classroom situation in which my instructor, the remarkable Mark Berman, told me, in class, in front of all my classmates, that I had written a very bad play. It was the one written just before Glitter and was submitted as a requirement of the class. Mark told me (and others), "create the strongest and most-vibrant characters you can and have them write the play for you." I did just that, and ended up with Glitter. It was eventually produced and performed in the Penn State 5 O'clock Theater in 1971. After all these years, I finally dredged it out and modified it slightly, and I think it is a bit better. There are not a lot of theaters for 1-act plays, but that does not steal from their charm and their purpose. At this point, I think my plays are good source material for scenes or complete movies. We will see. Imagine a railway station with a Coke machine and very few people who find themselves in an interesting human-level intrigue. See what happens. I think it is interesting, because, per Mark's suggestion (or should I say, insistence), my characters wrote this 1-act play for me, and you, I hope.
"Hi, Mark."
