The Temp is a 3-act play written with John Candy in mind in the mid 1980s. A man named Myron Timmons gets laid off from a rather lucrative job in an architecture firm in Philadelphia and finds himself going out as a Temp, a part-time employee, a path created from coincidence and his amazing ability to type extraordinarily fast with no errors; he thinks of it as normal; everyone else thinks he is "gifted." Myron and his friends of many years, not to mention his family, must adjust to the vast social difference in job titles and they accomplish this with humor and care for the marvelous man who is in trouble and needs the encouragement and care of those closest to him, whether he will admit it or not. Due to Myron's incredible speed and accuracy at typing and data input, learned and practiced at his job at the architectural firm, he truly is a perfect candidate for "temping," at the moment, the only show in town. Everything moves along relatively well, considering, until an agency wants to place him as a temp in his former company. Read and see what happens. The play was originally written for John Candy, but his agent stopped the flow of material to one of my favorite comedy actors. Candy died shortly thereafter at 43...... RIP John, d. March 4, 1994.
P.S. John and I had the pleasure of having a daughter born on the same day: February 3, 1980
